Released in 2012, Ripple is a distributed financial technology that enables banks to send real-time international payments across networks. All accounts and transactions sent over the Ripple network are cryptographically secure and algorithmically verified and validated with very little latency (3-5 seconds). XRP is the native currency of the Ripple network of which 1oo billion tokens were created at inception, and no more can be created according to the protocol's rules. Many global financial institutions have shown interest in the Ripple protocol ever since Munich based Fidor Bank announced a partnership with Ripple in early 2014. Since then Ripple has garnered the support of over 75 banks from around the world and at the beginning of 2017 the price of the XRP coins rose from around $0.01 USD to $0.32 - an increase of just over 3,000%.
